Geothermal-via-fracking now running some Google data centres
- Google has partnered with the startup Fervo to implement new geothermal technology capable of producing 3.5 MW of power.
- This geothermal power is used to supply energy to two of Google’s data centres located outside Las Vegas and Reno.
- Fervo’s technology involves drilling two horizontal wells to pump water through rock fractures, heating the water to produce steam.
- The system is closed-loop, reusing the water, which is beneficial in drought-prone areas like Nevada.
